💔 With pain in our hearts we have to share this news...

After years of struggle and hope, we have unfortunately had to deal with a major setback. The fund on which we had placed all our hopes has given us a negative answer for the time being. As if that wasn’t enough, we got the unpleasant news that the park – the place where we had laid all our dreams, plans and future for a turtle reserve – will be sold under our noses within 10 days!

This means that our dream, for which we have fought with heart and soul for years, comes to an end in this form. Starting over? That would cost at least five times as much money – an impossible task. We understand that these are huge sums of money, but the reality is that the turtle crisis has been underestimated for more than 70 years... and in the meantime, these beautiful animals are being abandoned time and time again.

We have been begging the government for years for a one-time, substantial contribution to solve this problem. The passion, the dedication, the organization – everything is there. Except for the money. And that remains, as always, the biggest obstacle. With the right resources, we could do so much good!

⏳ Time is running out...
We have only 10 days about 2 million euros to get together and save the park, including 5 hectares of land. Without this amount we cannot realize the reserve and a safe future for countless turtles becomes impossible. This also means that next season we will not be able to accommodate found turtles – simply because we can no longer offer them a dignified habitat.

Our hearts cry, as do those of all our colleague shelters, which are also overcrowded. We hope that they may be able to take in some more animals... but the painful truth is: there are too many, and there is too little space. We now have more than 5000 turtles to take care of in the shelter. 

Yet we do not give up. We continue to fight for a reserve, for a future where these animals are no longer seen as ‘unnecessary’. Because they deserve better. And who knows, maybe this message reaches a lot of people who care about the turtles. There are millions of people on social media, if they all give a few euros then this dream will come true for more than 5000 turtles and all those turtles that are still to come.
