Sea turtle

We regularly receive collections of turtle figurines donated by people to sell for the benefit of the shelter. Unfortunately, there are sometimes also mounted turtles among them....

In the past, it was very common to bring souvenirs from abroad of dead animals or ivory products. Luckily, this has been banned for years.

Of almost all the animals that we have received can never be determined exactly for when the turtles have been brought into this state. There are regulations from before 1947 and regulations from 1975. All this comes from the global CITES treaty that regulates the trade in protected animal species.

We personally have nothing against animal farming and we are not allowed to keep them legally either. We must destroy these copies or send or deliver them to the RVO. We always send these copies and hope that they may be used for educational purposes. Then it's still "useful"...
