We feel a little fooled with the solar panels...

We feel a little fooled with the solar panels...

We feel a little fooled with the solar panels...

In recent years we have invested heavily in solar panels to compensate for our electricity consumption as much as possible, this has gone perfectly for years, until last year when we had to deal with return costs and negative energy prices. The result is that on beautiful sunny days we have to turn off our panels to avoid additional costs, this means a lot of precious and especially sustainable energy is lost!

Now we are not the only ones with this, but also private holders of solar panels. We understand that the grid is full and that there is a lot of generation at one time of the day. But should there really be return delivery costs paid to energy suppliers who earn a lot of money on electricity for 8 months? We use as much energy as 10 families, so the costs are quite high.

But anyway, this is not within our reach so you have to do what you can, reason enough that we as a pioneer in technology for the sanctuary will take the step towards storing energy. This year we have already tried that with excess energy with heat. By heating the pools and boilers electrically during the day, this does not have to happen at night, when the sun does not shine. This works very well, but we still have a lot of energy left at times. So we are going to take the step to store the electrical energy in batteries. In this way, we can compensate for our night consumption, reduce our power connection, relieve the local grid and even get emergency power. This wish is an expensive matter that we ourselves can hardly afford. But with the help of our donors, Stichting DierenLot and Shelter for Animals We can tell you that the whole system has now been delivered in Harkema. In the coming weeks we will be installing and testing the system and hope to be online with our own small power plant for the new year.

Until the next update ☀🐢
