Dumping of 18 turtles, 7 died in Voorschoten

ORDINARY DUMPING OF 18 TURTLES IN BOX AT FISH SHOP IN ADVANCES

7 of the 18 turtles have died!

We received a phone call that 18 turtles have been dumped in a box in front of a tropical fish store in Voorschoten.

Met urgently we have gone out to offer help.

Upon arrival it turned out that the animals were dumped about 3 weeks ago and the owner of the store offered them to a zoo and then tried to sell them on marketplace. Because it is about (a number of) prohibited species, the ad was removed and he decided to call the animal ambulance. In the meantime, 7 of the 18 turtles have died.

The police have been to the scene and are now investigating camera footage.

Because the owner of the store was on holiday, it is not clear which night the animals were dumped. About 3 weeks ago at least.

The story is thus vague and we leave the tracking of the possible dumper to the animal police. But because it is a colorful collection of turtles, someone should recognize these animals.

Who knows the owner of all these turtles: yellow-bellied turtles, red-winged turtles, musk turtles, a (large) sawback and a Chinese long-striped turtle. The animals are well fed and all animals have presumably not always been under the right lamps given the deformations of the shields and / or shield rot.

Whatever the situation is, we as a shelter have now taken in 11 additional animals and will maintain them for life. We cannot do this alone. Can you help us to accommodate this kind of large numbers of animals at once? The animals have been greatly helped with a donation.

Do you have a tip, suspected owner or camera footage via e.g. your ring video doorbel? Contact the police in Leiden.

The animals were dumped on the small business park at Leidseweg 246 in Voorschoten.
