Turtles at the Vellevest in Schiedam

We always try to keep the page positive and make the turtle suffering visible, but in useless discussions we do not put any energy. We therefore hope that that will not happen now.
The Vellevest is a well-known dump site in Schiedam and many people come there to look at the many turtles that lie on a tree trunk nearby. The neighbors also find it "their" animals and they have been there for years and are doing fine.
Annabel has been feeding the turtles there for 5 years now and recognizes the resistance of bystanders to take animals away. The structure there is now such that only visibly sick animals are caught and given medical care. However, the number of turtles there remains the same, increases again one year and then decreases again.
This week we noticed a red cheek that was clearly not fit and tonight she was lying on a tree trunk where clearly mucus and snot was visible. The turtle was therefore captured and taken for medical treatment.
It is a great pity that the resistance there is sometimes so great when an animal is going to get the care it needs.
The municipality of Schiedam is aware of this place and last year an Action Programme for Animal Welfare was adopted in which it is desirable that turtles are also included.
We therefore hope that Schiedamers respect and understand that we do not want to deprive turtles of their freedom because we like it, but help turtles because it is necessary.
