Turtles on Asphalt?

Turtles look for places in nature to warm up as quickly as possible. Asphalt roads are a huge source of heat and therefore animals are regularly hit, driven dead or fortunately removed from the road in time.
Luckily for this turtle it was the last option and he clearly had an angel on his shield. His shield is almost black from the tar deposits of asphalt combined with polluting oils from the water he stayed in. The animal is severely emaciated, vomiting and is in a poor state.
Tomorrow he comes with volunteer Annabel, just like all the others of last week to the shelter where he -after clearly years outside- can finally go safely sunbathing under the perfect conditions without the chance that he will be crushed.
