Turtle shelter in Harkema starts its own Animal Ambulance!

Turtle shelter in Harkema starts its own Animal Ambulance!

Because, what I was afraid of... has happened!

Recently we received an email from the Animal Protection with the announcement that they have introduced a new policy as of May 15, no more turtles to be transported. Yes, only if they are injured or sick... how can a layman determine this first?

We have already received the first reports, that it is even told that turtles can live fine in our nature note bene!

Does the Animal Welfare not realize that this advice leads to much more dump? Is that money really so important that these animals have to continue to suffer in nature? I thought we were going to solve this suffering together after 60 years? The Animal Protection is hiding behind the advice of the RVO, while they as an animal welfare organization should have known better! In addition, the Animal Welfare insinuates that this would be legislation... when this is simply an advice. Just according to the legislation, a pet must be secured at all times! It has now become a reversed world...

It is truly unimaginable! I am so angry and disappointed in this organization! They have kept us on the line for almost 7 years, we will help you, wait a bit... we will not let you down.... and when I finally stood with my back against the wall, they wanted to help, but then everything will be taken over by the Animal Welfare was the message!

I am grateful for all the warnings I have received from people and from my own intuition. Thank you to all the people (donors) and organizations that have helped make the Stichting Schildpaddenopvang Nederland, completely independent of this organization is and remains!

We never let the turtles choke, is a found and caught turtle rejected? Call us, we get the turtle ourselves, important is that a Veterinary Ambulance of your own region must have refused! We make a finder / stray animal declaration and a declaration of refusal by Dierenambulance. Then we make a declaration in accordance with the law to the municipality where the turtle was found. The finder is thus exempted from responsibility for this found "case"

We sober Frisians did not sit still, then we will solve it ourselves! In the meantime we have purchased two cheap vans, so that we can pick up all the turtles we find ourselves in the busy summer period. We have set up this as a veterinary ambulance so that we can apply for exemption from road tax (WBR). It all costs something, fuel, insurance and maintenance. But we can’t help but pick up the turtles ourselves. We are not going to watch this suffering any longer!

We have now spent 4,300 euros on the vans and according to the requirements of the Animal Ambulance, the stickers and the equipment and flashing lights etc. We are ready for it! We go the turtles WEL save!

And sorry to have to ask again, but we just aren’t subsidized! Who can help us to make a donation so that we can continue driving to help turtles this summer?

Thank you so much!
