From an empty roof, to a roof with 54 solar panels!

Thanks to the donors of our energy costs action and the sustainability loan of Stichting Dierenlot, we were recently able to have 54 additional solar panels installed by EGJ Elektro. 

This means that we have a total of 182 panels with a total power of 63,000 watts peak. Together, the panels can fully compensate for about 150% of our total electricity consumption. We can now immediately save a lot of costs on our energy bill and endure these expensive times longer. The remaining at least 50% should be used next year to convert gas heating to electric heating. We hope not to get into trouble again because of the high energy bills...

In order to use as much electricity as possible directly and to relieve our local power grid, the panels are placed east-west. This allows us to distribute the yield longer throughout the day and convert it directly into heat for the turtles.

For next year, we must reduce our gas consumption as much as possible. At the moment we are taking insulation measures here and there and some rooms are less heated. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives available due to the high demand. We hope to have more clarity in 2023.
