10 Chipreaders needed for our volunteers all over the country!

Stichting Schildpaddenopvang Nederland for years has been drawn to the fate of the many released turtles in the wild. Unfortunately, not all animal organizations think in the same way. Unfortunately, the advice is often given to release a caught turtle back into the wild. Not knowing that this causes years of torment and suffering. In addition, it is even punishable....
That is why we have taken the reins completely into our own hands since 2021. By purchasing animal ambulances themselves and have also set up a network of volunteers. The hotline for found turtles only needs to be called and a volunteer in the area picks up the turtle and brings it to our shelter in Harkema (Friesland).
Sometimes found turtles have escaped, especially turtles found in residential areas. Our advice is therefore to chip these turtles that are temporarily housed outside in the summer, just like a dog and cat. Tortoises, on the other hand, must wear a chip according to the Act, from a weight of 500 grams.
Our volunteers would be greatly benefited if they also have a chip reader at their disposal. In the most favorable case, the turtle does not have to be taken all the way to Harkema and can be delivered directly to the owner.
In addition, we are working on a plan to let some volunteers get a chip diploma. So that they can chip turtles responsibly and according to the legal regulations. This only applies to the non-CITES-compulsory species. CITES mandatory species such as the Greek and even the Russian fourteen turtle, must be chipmed by a veterinarian.
Would you like to help us provide our volunteers with a good chip reader?
