New outdoor residence tortoises

It took a while, already in 2020 we received financial help from Stichting Dierenlot to be able to build the outdoor residence of our tortoises. However, due to the construction of the large outdoor pond, this project has suffered enormous delays. The place where the tortoises came was needed for housing equipment and materials such as stones and sand. The construction of this project therefore had to be postponed for a while.

A month ago the construction of the new residences began. This, of course, thanks to the relentless commitment of our loyal volunteers and interns. They have now become beautiful spacious residences tailored precisely to the needs of a turtle. Here and there we will make some changes depending on how the turtles do. The turtles have been outside for a while now and are visibly enjoying the sun and this new outdoor adventure! The residence is approximately 20 meters long and 5 meters wide and is divided into 5 compartments. This depends on the size of the turtles and the size of the group. The compartments are so large that when necessary we can divide these compartments.

We are super grateful to Dierenlot that we can offer our tortoises this. In the summer, enjoy the outdoors and when it gets colder, go inside again. Just like our aquatic turtles who can enjoy in summer in our large outdoor pond.
