New pond put into use!

New pond put into use!

Last Saturday we were able to put the finishing touches on the new 2nd indoor housing for our aquatic turtles with a large club of volunteers (corona safe). We have enough space for a long time for shelter. In the meantime, the shelter houses a little over 1800 turtles, most of which, about 80%, come as dumped pets in the wild.

The new pond is 8.5 x 8.5 meters large including a sand island of 8.5 x 1 meters long and deep. Contains almost 50,000 litres of water, enough for hundreds of turtles. Via a turtle bridge between both ponds, the turtles can now decide where they want to go. In this way we create a second territory and this gives more space and enrichment in their existence.

In the meantime, the first residents have already gone over the bridge to the new pond. We choose to let the turtles do all this on their own initiative to avoid stress. New turtles are put directly into the new pond.

Just a little bit longer and the turtles can go out again. Last Saturday we were also able to work on the outdoor pond. There are still a few adjustments needed to make everything turtle proof.

Once again, we thank all donors, volunteers and the ABRI fund for animals, for their financial, or any help whatsoever! Without you all this is not possible! Thank you so much!
