Six tortoises from Vlieland to Harkema...

Six tortoises from Vlieland to Harkema...

Today, at the end of the year, another beautiful smooth cooperation with many parties who also have animal welfare in a high priority.

Recently, we were approached by the Municipality of Vlieland asking if we could provide assistance for the emergency shelter of no less than 6 tortoises. Unfortunately, the owner was affected by a heart attack and is admitted for a long time. Of course we will help with this was the message! but how and what? Because on an island, and especially a car-free island like Vlieland, everything is a little different. What is nice to see that on such a small island there is very good cooperation, fantastic!

The turtles were picked up today by Staatsbosbeheer Vlieland and transported to the boat. Because the animals are very heat-demanding, they were even allowed to make the crossing to the mainland together with the captain:) The animals were transported in a large box with warm blankets and bottles filled with hot water.

Stichting dierenambulance de waadhoeke from Sexbierum then took the turtles off board, replaced the hot water bottles again and drove directly to our shelter in Harkema. This animal ambulance knows exactly how everything works, already has a good cooperation with Rederij Doeksen and has also worked with us for years to our full satisfaction.

All in all, a good example of beautiful collaborations that are very valuable, purely for the sake of the animals! Everyone superrrrr thank you!!!

We wish the owner on behalf of the whole team, much strength and recovery!

The turtles are now warm and cozy in Harkema. We will leave them alone for the next few days and especially spoil them a lot with goodies
